Fashion images are often aspirational and can act as an escape from everyday life anxieties and stress. Rebecca Arnold (2001) argues that excess of glamour and provocation has overloaded our minds with fantasies of escape. Escapism is a tendency to escape from unpleasant reality to fantasy (Wikipedia, 2005). This project focuses on my interpretation of fashion imagery as an escape method and my own dreams and fantasies, presenting them as a foreigner in real life. I go back to the innocent times when I was a child that are desirable but never attainable; without worries; responsibilities, stress of adult life. I am using a council estate as my location to represent an everyday life situation that one might want to escape from. I want to get across that the model is an adult pretending to be a child; she will seem too big for children’s playing areas and clothes etc.
